6. Excursion for the Participants:

Date: July 18, 2025

Route: Dubna – Uglich – Kalyazin – Dubna

Located on the Volga River, 201 km northeast of Moscow and 94 km west of Yaroslavl, lies one of Russia’s ancient towns — Uglich.

Uglich rivals Rostov the Great in age — one of the oldest cities in northeastern Rus’. Archaeological excavations confirm that the town already existed in the second half of the 10th century.

We will begin our excursion in Uglich with a visit to the Hydropower Museum, where we’ll explore a unique interactive exhibition — the only one of its kind in Russia. We will learn where, how, and why electricity is generated, as well as discover the history of hydropower in Russia and at the Uglich Hydroelectric Power Station. The branch of PJSC "RusHydro" — Upper Volga HPP Cascade — unites the Uglich and Rybinsk hydroelectric power stations, which are the second and third steps of the Volga-Kama hydropower cascade, respectively.

Next, children and adults alike will take an exciting journey through time in ancient Uglich. We’ll take part in a quest game called "From the Depth of the Ages", where we’ll meet a local nobleman, complete various tasks, find clues, and uncover hidden treasure.

In the exhibition "Terracotta Uglich. Uglich in Tiles", we will explore the distinctive art of Russian ceramic tiles, learn about their history and unique manufacturing process, and reveal the hidden meanings behind their imagery.

On the way back, we’ll stop in the small town of Kalyazin in the Tver Region to see its iconic landmark — the bell tower of the 19th-century St. Nicholas Cathedral, the only visible remnant of a monastery submerged under water, now standing alone in the middle of the reservoir.

The excursion is payable separately. Cost of the trip: 4,000 RUB per person

Included in the price: transportation by bus, guided tour, museum tickets, lunch. Additionally, water and snacks will be provided, along with a photo session with themed props.
